• Great Bengalis through the eye of a Philatelist

    Postage stamps are the windows of a nation through which people all over the world may behold the nation's heritage and nature. Stamps can reflect every aspect of nation's life including its history, cultural heritage, arts, crafts, and great personalities who make various contributions to build the nation.


    The word “Bangamela” literary means a confluence of Bengalis (people with roots in Bengal, India and Bangladesh) at fair showing Bengal's art, culture, literature, music and tradition.

    This theme of Bangamela 2008 has inspired this philatelist (stamp collector) to exhibit the “Great Bengalis through the eye of a Philatelist”. A total of 70 stamps of Great Bengalis and 5 non-Bengalis have been selected. These stamps were issued by the Indian Department of Posts since 1947, after independence to commemorate the various occasions, specially on the birth centenaries.
